Celebrating Creatives of the Capital

CREATIVE BRIEF

Background

The creative industry was one of the hardest hit sectors during the pandemic and one that depends on venues being open and audiences to survive. For our young creatives (18-25), it’s been even harder. Getting their foot in the door and getting their name known in the industry is vital step in their career, but for many, this has been put on hold.

We believe culture is what makes Cardiff, so it’s important that we support the young creative community and its budding talent to make sure it can continue to be a cultural hotspot for years to come.

This St. David’s Day, FOR Cardiff wants to get young talent involved in a big digital art celebration. We’ll be working closely with Creative Cardiff to shine the light on Cardiff’s incredible young creatives and celebrate their talents on Wales’ ‘Welshest’ day.

Creative brief

We’re calling on Cardiff-based creatives aged 18-25 to submit an art concept that tells a story about Cardiff city centre. See the specific area we cover in our map below:

As part of the brief, we also want you to tell us a bit about why you’ve chosen to focus on this area of the city centre – perhaps what it means to you or why it’s of interest – and the story behind your concept.

We’re welcoming concepts from all creative disciplines – a painting, song, sculpture, ceramic, film, poem, sketch, dance – you name it. Anything that can tell a story about our city centre. You can get as creative and imaginative as you like.

We want to celebrate the diversity within Wales and are hoping to receive submissions from all background and cultures within the art community. We are also welcoming concepts in both English and Welsh.

If you’re coming up with a concept that involves film or video, we ask that you keep it under 2 minutes in length and in a format that we can display across all social media channels on the day of the digital exhibition.

A specialist panel will judge the art concepts and choose 10 of them to commission on 2 February. The ten artists will have 3 weeks to develop their piece of art, ready to be showcased in a virtual exhibition celebration on March 1st.

For our 10 commissioned artists:

Our 10 commissioned artists will have three weeks to develop their creative concept following the announcement on 2 February.

In addition to the piece of art, we’d also like our artists to document their creative journey and its connection to Cardiff city centre. This could be a time-lapse of the process, a piece to camera explaining the piece, an audio flyer, or a written description of it – however you like. The exhibition will be celebrating our capital, so we want to hear all about it!

The final pieces, along with the artists’ Cardiff story behind the pieces, will be revealed at a virtual exhibition across FOR Cardiff’s social media channels as part of an art celebration of homegrown talent on St. David’s Day.

There may also be an opportunity to exhibit the pieces permanently in the city centre. More to come on this soon.

Commission budget

The ten chosen artists commissioned for the virtual exhibition will receive £500 each which includes fee and expenses.

Dathlu Creadigrwydd y Brifddinas

BRIFF CREADIGOL

Cefndir

Roedd y diwydiant creadigol yn un o’r sectorau a gafodd eu taro caletaf yn ystod y pandemig ac yn un sy’n dibynnu ar leoliadau fod ar agor a chynulleidfaoedd i oroesi. Ar gyfer ein pobl greadigol ifanc (18-25), mae wedi bod yn anoddach fyth. Mae cael eu troed yn y drws a chael eu henw yn hysbys yn y diwydiant yn gam hanfodol yn eu gyrfa, ond i lawer, gohiriwyd hyn.

Credwn mai diwylliant yw’r hyn sy’n gwneud Caerdydd, felly mae’n bwysig ein bod yn cefnogi’r gymuned greadigol ifanc a’i egin dalent i sicrhau y gall barhau i fod yn fan diwylliannol am flynyddoedd i ddod.

Y Dydd Gŵyl Dewi hwn, mae Caerdydd AM BYTH eisiau cael talent ifanc i gymryd rhan mewn dathliad celf ddigidol fawr. Byddwn yn gweithio’n agos gyda Caerdydd Creadigol i daflu’r goleuni ar dalent greadigol ifanc anhygoel Caerdydd a dathlu eu doniau ar ddiwrnod ein Nawddsant.

Briff Creadigol

Rydyn ni’n galw ar bobl greadigol yng Nghaerdydd rhwng 18 a 25 oed i gyflwyno cysyniad celf sy’n adrodd stori am ganol dinas Caerdydd. Gweler yr ardal benodol yr ydym yn ei chynnwys yn ein map isod:

Fel rhan o’r brîff, rydyn ni hefyd eisiau i chi ddweud ychydig wrthym pam eich bod wedi dewis canolbwyntio ar y rhan hon o ganol y ddinas – efallai beth mae’n ei olygu i chi neu pam ei fod o ddiddordeb – a’r stori y tu ôl i’ch cysyniad.

Rydyn ni’n croesawu cysyniadau o bob disgyblaeth greadigol – paentiad, cân, cerflun, cerameg, ffilm, cerdd, braslun, dawns. Unrhyw beth a all ddweud stori am ganol ein dinas. Gallwch chi fod mor greadigol a dychmygus ag y dymunwch.

Rydym am ddathlu’r amrywiaeth yng Nghymru ac rydym yn gobeithio derbyn cyflwyniadau gan bob cefndir a diwylliant yn y gymuned gelf. Rydym hefyd yn croesawu cysyniadau yn Saesneg ac yn Gymraeg.

Os ydych chi’n cynnig cysyniad sy’n cynnwys ffilm neu fideo, gofynnwn i chi ei gadw o dan 2 funud o hyd ac mewn fformat y gallwn ei arddangos ar draws pob sianel cyfryngau cymdeithasol ar ddiwrnod yr arddangosfa ddigidol.

Bydd panel arbenigol yn beirniadu’r cysyniadau celf ac yn dewis 10 ohonynt i’w comisiynu ar 2 Chwefror. Bydd gan y deg artist 3 wythnos i ddatblygu eu darn o gelf, yn barod i’w arddangos mewn dathliad arddangosfa rithwir ar Fawrth 1af.

Ar gyfer ein 10 artist a gomisiynwyd:

Bydd gan ein 10 artist a gomisiynwyd tair wythnos i ddatblygu eu cysyniad creadigol yn dilyn y cyhoeddiad ar 2 Chwefror.

Yn ogystal â’r darn o gelf, hoffem hefyd i’n hartistiaid gofnodi eu taith greadigol a’i chysylltiad â chanol dinas Caerdydd. Gallai hyn fod yn ffilm treigl amser o’r broses, darn i gamera yn esbonio’r darn, taflen sain, neu ddisgrifiad ysgrifenedig ohono – sut bynnag yr hoffech chi. Bydd yr arddangosfa’n dathlu ein prifddinas, felly rydyn ni am glywed popeth!

Bydd y darnau olaf, ynghyd â stori’r artistiaid Caerdydd y tu ôl i’r darnau, yn cael eu datgelu mewn arddangosfa rithwir ar draws sianeli cyfryngau cymdeithasol Caerdydd AM BYTH fel rhan o ddathliad celf o dalent leol ar Ddydd Gŵyl Dewi.

Efallai y bydd cyfle hefyd i arddangos y darnau yn barhaol yng nghanol y ddinas. Mwy i ddod ar hyn yn fuan.

Cyllideb y comisiwn

Bydd y deg artist a ddewiswyd ac a gomisiynwyd ar gyfer yr arddangosfa rithwir yn derbyn £500 yr un sy’n cynnwys ffi a threuliau.

Panel

Bydd y panel beirniaid yn cynnwys:
