WE’RE RECRUITING A BUSINESS ENGAGEMENT MANAGER

We’re recruiting for an enthusiastic Business Engagement Manager to build relationships with our member businesses and lead our team of Business Engagement Officers. If you’re passionate about Cardiff city centre, know how to inspire a team, and have great people skills then this could be the role for you.

Job Title: Business Engagement Manager

Responsible To: Head of Projects & Engagement

Responsible For: Business Engagement Officers

Salary: £30,000pa plus bonus of up to 4% of salary related to performance against set KPIs

Other Benefits: Optional BUPA healthcare, (non contractual) access to company shared Laguna Pool & Gym passes

Annual Leave Entitlement: 25 days per year plus all bank holidays with extra leave for long service

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday – some occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Contract Type: Fixed term to November 2026

Location: FOR Cardiff offices as the main workplace (7 St Andrews Crescent, CF10 3DA). An agile working policy is in place following the completion of a successful probation period but this post will require regular physical attendance in the FOR Cardiff area

 Job Purpose

Lead the Business Engagement team to develop strong relationships with the businesses and organisations that pay the FOR Cardiff levy, ensuring that businesses are fully aware of the work delivered by FOR Cardiff and are able to engage with projects to their maximum potential.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Head of Projects & Engagement to design and deliver a strategy for the Business Engagement team to comprehensively engage with levy payers across all sectors
  • Manage the day to day operations and development of the wider team of Business Engagement Officers
  • Personally develop and manage relationships with an assigned portfolio of key FOR Cardiff levy payers
  • Ensure levy payers receive a return on their investment in FOR Cardiff and are aware of the opportunities that BID membership provides
  • Pro-actively target historically disengaged levy payers to raise awareness of FOR Cardiff and create pro-active members
  • Act as a conduit for feedback and recommendations from levy payers to the FOR Cardiff management team
  • Act as an advocate for the work of FOR Cardiff across the city centre
  • Communicate effectively with levy payers across multiple sectors and at various levels of seniority
  • Maintain accurate records of relationships and ensure key points of contact are up to date and support the wider Business Engagement team to do the same
  • Support levy payers with day to day issues wherever possible within the scope of FOR Cardiff’s business plan
  • Represent FOR Cardiff as appropriate at external events which may include networking events, conferences, multi-stakeholder meetings and any other relevant formats
  • Alongside the Strategic Leadership Team and wider management team contribute to the overall direction and success of FOR Cardiff
  • Assist in specific project delivery as tasked by the Head of Projects & Engagement or the Executive Director
  • Be well informed on key industry issues relevant to business portfolio
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably required

 

Key Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Line management and team development experience
  • Experience of account management and developing business relationships
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to think strategically and develop long term solutions
  • Ability to manage and resolve conflict
  • Clear and confident communication skills including experience making presentations to senior figures
  • Pro-active approach to problem solving
  • Socially confident, personable and approachable
  • Computer literate with good MS Office skills and ideally experience of a web-based database

Desirable:

  • Ability to communicate in Welsh
  • Knowledge of business improvement districts (BIDs)
  • Knowledge of the Cardiff business community
