A New Chapter for Churchill Way: Turning Cardiff on its Head!

If you’ve visited Cardiff city centre over the past few months, chances are, you’ve stepped across the vibrant pavement mural stretching along Churchill Way and Queen Street.

Created by Patternistas in collaboration with illustrator Bethan Richards, the artwork was designed to bring joy and creativity to the heart of the city. With its bold patterns, swirling shapes and playful hopscotch grids, the mural encouraged passers-by to pause, interact and rediscover a sense of fun in their everyday surroundings.

As with all temporary installations, this colourful chapter for Churchill Way and Queen Street has come to an end. The mural will be removed to quite literally pave the way for something new. From the outset, the artwork was intended to be temporary, and it was created using specialist water-based paint that can be carefully removed with power washing.

So, what’s next?

Upside Down House UK is bringing its first ever Welsh location to Cardiff, and it will sit right on the intersection between Churchill Way and Queen Street.

Upside Down House Cardiff is an interactive photo attraction for all ages, offering a playful, immersive experience where the world is turned on its head.

Perfect for families, content creators, and visitors looking for something a little different, the house will feature a striking green, white and red exterior reflecting the national colours of Wales.
