As resolutions take centre stage, Veganuary is quickly becoming a popular challenge, with over 500,000 participants in 2021 alone. But navigating the switch to a vegan lifestyle can be daunting, especially when it comes to discovering options that don’t skimp on taste. That’s why we have created your go-to guide to Veganuary in Cardiff. Let’s dive into a world of plant-based goodness together!

Eating Out: Vegan Style

Wagamama 

Wagas is a great spot for any veggie or vegan as over 50% of their menu is plant-based.  They have recently welcomed a new plant-powered bowl set to get even the most devout meat-eaters excited. The new lion’s mane ‘steak’ bulgogi, available exclusively this January, is topped with sticky Korean barbecue sauce and paired with thick udon noodles, caramelised onion and aubergine. Bill’s

Bill’s have introduced their highly anticipated Vegan Pancakes this month. You can choose between 3 or 5 stacks of Vegan Blueberry Pancakes topped with either Vegan Bacon or Fresh Fruit. Franco Manca

Missing the cheesy goodness of a proper pizza? Pop down to Franco Manca and enjoy their new Veganuary pizza, created in collaboration with Violife. Giggling Squid

The Botanist

Veganuary is the perfect time to try out the vegan dishes on offer at The Botanist! We recommend their Vegan Meatball Hanging Kebab followed by the irresistible Banoffee Sundae with Biscoff and caramelised banana. See the menu. Book a table.

Mowgli

Scaredy Cats Cafe Bar

Did you know that all the cakes, sausage rolls and pasties in Scaredy Cats cabinet are vegan, and not just for January! Pop in, they have something for everyone all year round.

Barburrito 

Barburrito have introduced a limited edition Crispy BBQ Vegan Chicken Special for January. This delicious protein packed vegan chicken is available as a burrito or bowl with Mexican rice, black beans, slaw, guac and chipotle salsa. Magic Wrap

Falafel Corner 

A great lunch spot with lots of vegan options like falafels, hummus, salads and more. Their sauces are also clearly labelled as vegan/ not vegan and there is plenty of choice so you’re not skimping on flavour! See the menu.

Cardiff Market’s Vegan Gems

Dirty Gnocchi

Head to Cardiff Market for some delicious vegan gnocchi from Dirty Gnocchi. You can choose between The OG (Dirty vegan) with fake bacon, chilli, paprika, vegan cheese and vegan aioli, or The Dirty Fungi with Mushroom Ragu and vegan cheese.

Bao Selecta 

Bao Selecta is a great spot if you’re looking for vegan alternatives that taste like the real deal. We’d recommend their crispy ‘beef’ rice bowls.

The Bearded Taco

Another market favourite, The Bearded Taco boasts a range of veggie and vegan taco options including our favourite, Let’s Avo Cwtch, which is also gluten free. See the menu.
