The FOR Cardiff Board of Directors and Place Shaping Working Group would like to see the company respond more proactively to planning consultations and other processes linked to the ongoing development of the BID area.
In order to ensure consistency of approach the following principles of responding to consultations have been established.
Responses should be developed in line with the commitments of the FOR Cardiff business plan
- Enhance, bringing residents, employees and visitors back into the heart of the city. Celebrating what makes our city great, through art and culture and future-proofing it for the younger generations through an environmental focus.
- Responses will prioritise place making elements such as the incorporation of public art and greening opportunities into wider schemes
- Responses will currently support the premise of increased residential density in the city centre particularly those that do not lead to the current loss of employment land
- Deliver, initiatives that make Wales’ capital a cleaner, safer and more supportive city. Whilst enabling our staff students, graduates and partners to flourish
- Responses will focus on ensuring the BID area is clean and safe with support for designing out crime, well lit environments and encouraging eyes on the street as well as durable design that can be operationally maintained.
- Represent, empowering, informing and unifying our members to lead the way for the city and instill change for the better
- Responses to planning applications will be inline with the FOR Cardiff ambition to make Cardiff and ‘Equality City’, championing developments that are accessible and
- As per below responses will be in line with wider policy and lobbying interventions from FOR Cardiff.
Furthermore responses should be developed in line with the relevant recommendations of A Recovery Manifesto for Cities and High Streets in particular:
- Maintain the benefits of good office environments whilst transitioning to a blended and accessible working dynamic
- Responses will continue to champion high quality and adaptable office space in the city centre as a part of mixed use developments
- Empower communities to take charge of neglected or mismanaged spaces and prevent the destruction of historic and socially relevant structures
- FOR Cardiff responses will be sensitive to city’s unique nature and balance growth and development alongside cultural heritage and distinct identity
- Supercharge the Town Centre First approach and bring public services into vacant central properties
- FOR Cardiff will support applications that facilitate the delivery of public services in the BID area
- Position, protect and strengthen cultural institutions in city centres
- FOR Cardiff will support applications that bring artistic and cultural institutions into the city centre or help to future proof their existence
- Continue to invest in developing integrated high-quality public transport infrastructure
- FOR Cardiff will support the principle of developing stronger public transport links in the BID area
