FOR CARDIFF LAUNCH POLICE TEAM

Two new officers set to take to the streets of Cardiff city centre.

Today (3rd September 2018), FOR Cardiff are revealing Wales’ first dedicated Business Improvement District Police team to tackle city centre issues.

The new team will consist of two Police Constables from South Wales Police who will work directly with FOR Cardiff to address problems such as aggressive beggars, antisocial behaviour and retail crime. The PCs will serve as additional support to existing resources provided by South Wales Police in the area.

Businesses will be able to raise issues such as these with the FOR Cardiff team who will pass them directly to the officers to make sure the city centre remains a welcoming and safe place.

The positions, funded by FOR Cardiff, were created in response to a consultation with FOR Cardiff members and a review of FOR Cardiff’s welcoming projects to establish how it can better support businesses.

Executive Director of FOR Cardiff, Adrian Field said: “Our vision at FOR Cardiff is to transform Cardiff city centre, making it more welcoming, vibrant and influential.

“This service will be a great addition to FOR Cardiff’s existing projects such as our Night Marshals and Street Ambassadors and will enhance the overall visitor experience.

“We will be making sure the officers are fully aware of local issues affecting the BID area, as part of the force’s commitment to neighbourhood policing.

“Whilst they will be in place to help members of the public, businesses and stakeholders in the city centre, any serious incidents or emergencies should always be reported to the police by calling 999.”

Chief Inspector Ian Randell South Wales Police said “ We are pleased to be able to support this ‘First in Wales’ initiative as we are committed to understanding and responding to the needs of all those who work, live and visit Cardiff City centre. The additional officers will be able to provide an enhanced service to our existing Neighbourhood Policing Team and improve the look and feel of the City Centre”.
