Safety Bus

FOR Cardiff works in partnership with South Wales Police, Cardiff University, and Skills & Volunteering Cymru (SVC), alongside volunteers from Cardiff’s higher education institutions and local communities, to support the Cardiff Safety Bus in the city centre. Other partners include Cardiff Met, Unite Students, Welsh Government, APB, Safe Zone and the South Wales Police & Crime Commissioner.

Operating during night-time economy hours, including student nights, weekends and major city events, the Safety Bus provides a safe space and welfare support for anyone who may find themselves in a vulnerable situation during a night out in Cardiff. While originally introduced to support student safety, the service is available to everyone in the city centre regardless of age or gender.

Staffed by officers and volunteers, the Safety Bus carries essentials including First Aid kits, a Defibrillator, phone chargers and water, helping hundreds of people safely return home or access further support services like the Alcohol Treatment Centre.

The initiative also plays an important role in supporting Cardiff’s evening economy, working closely with bar staff, door teams, our taxi marshals, and other city partners to help keep the city centre safe while reducing pressure on emergency services.
