Project Lead: Emily Cotterill
Students make up a significant proportion of Cardiff’s population and make an enormous contribution to the economy, with students in 2019 generating £696 million of regional GVA.
Following the BID 2 consultation with our members, prioritising retaining and developing these graduates, rather than losing them to other core cities, is really important.
We are working with Cardiff University to offer a university internship scheme, to help bridge the gap between top talent and our member businesses.
We will also use this platform to develop a strong young professionals’ network within Cardiff city centre, with the aim of retaining talent locally.
The FOR Cardiff and Cardiff University part funded internship is currently open for applications with grants available of up to £1,386. You can download the application paperwork here.
The scheme will place up to 15 students and recent graduates of Cardiff University into FOR Cardiff businesses for periods of up to 10 weeks during summer 2022.
Positions will be 40% funded by the internship fund, providing FOR Cardiff members the opportunity to work with emergent talent from across the university’s full academic range at a discounted rate.
We’re also asking participating businesses to host an insight session for another student to learn more about the world of work. These are unpaid work experience placements where a student will be supervised by a member of the team – this can be a great development opportunity for staff looking to move toward management themselves.
