Prepare for Increased Footfall

Summer events can significantly increase footfall across the city centre, particularly around performance zones, transport hubs, and key retail streets. Review your staffing levels in advance and consider peak trading times when scheduling breaks or cover.

Businesses should consider:

  • Reviewing staffing levels and rotas.
  • Briefing teams on key event dates.
  • Planning for peak arrival and departure times.
  • Ensuring payment systems are functioning efficiently.
  • Preparing for fluctuations in customer demand throughout the day.

Create a Safe and Welcoming Environment

Prioritise Customer Comfort

A positive experience keeps people in the city longer. Clear signage, tidy storefronts, and visible staff all help visitors feel comfortable navigating busy areas.

Support Crowd Flow

Be mindful of entrances and pavement space during peak times. Keeping access points clear helps maintain safe movement around your premises and neighbouring businesses.

Keep Safety Front of Mind

Support a safe city experience by keeping entrances clear, reporting issues where needed, and working collaboratively with neighbouring businesses during busy periods.

FOR Cardiff manages a network of over 100 ‘Safe Places’ locations registered in the city. You can direct anyone who feels at risk or vulnerable to a ‘Safe Place’ where they can take refuge. Whether to have a conversation, call a friend, ask someone to call a cab, or even to call 999, these are locations across Cardiff where support will always be provided. A full list of Cardiff’s ‘Safe Places’ can be found here.

Working with South Wales Police, FOR Cardiff also provide bilingual materials for businesses to ensure people who feel unsafe in venues can receive discreet support via the nationwide Ask for Angela scheme. Training documents for your team can be found here.

Connect with the Summer of Music

Align with the City’s Energy

The Summer of Music presents an opportunity for businesses to become part of the wider city experience.

  • Music-themed displays.
  • Event-inspired promotions.
  • Seasonal branding.
  • Social media content linked to key events.
  • Collaborations with neighbouring businesses.

Help Visitors Navigate Cardiff

Visitors may ask for directions, transport advice or recommendations.

Staff who can confidently assist visitors help create a positive impression of both the city and their business.
